· Philia (friendship)
Philia is the Greek concept of deep friendship, “brotherly love,” or affectionate regard, built on mutual respect, shared values, trust, and companionship, going beyond mere acquaintances to a committed bond that helps individuals achieve their best, exemplified by strong connections like those between David and Jonathan, and crucial for human flourishing.
1 Samuel 18:1-4 David and Jonathan in the Bible represent one of history’s most profound friendships, detailed in 1 Samuel, where Jonathan, King Saul’s son, deeply loved David, the future king, even as his jealous father tried to kill David; Jonathan consistently protected David, made a covenant of loyalty, gave him symbolic gifts like his robe and armor, and their bond, marked by selflessness, foreshadows Jesus’ ultimate friendship and sacrifice for humanity.

It’s characterized by strong chemistry, idealization, urgency, and deep emotional and physical connection, often seen in media as fated, passionate romance.
Song of songs 1:2
The Song of Solomon is the Bible’s prime example of eros (passionate, romantic love), a book filled with sensual poetry celebrating the intense desire, beauty, and intimacy between a man and woman within marriage, using rich imagery like “Oh, that he would kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!” (Song 1:2) and comparing their love to an unquenchable force, showing physical longing and deep emotional connection as a divine gift.

John 3:16-17 is a pivotal Bible passage explaining God’s immense love for humanity, expressed by giving His unique Son, Jesus, so that anyone who believes in Him won’t perish but receive eternal life; verse 17 clarifies that Jesus wasn’t sent to condemn the world but to save it through Him, offering a choice between perishing or finding salvation.
• Agape (amor desinteresado)

· Dear Heavenly Father,

May your agape love – the selfless, unconditional love that Jesus displayed for the Church – fill our hearts. Help us to love others sacrificially, seeking their good above our own.
Cultivate within us the philia love of deep, committed friendship – the bond that unites us as brothers and sisters in Christ. May our relationships reflect the care, loyalty and affection that you desire.
And for those joined in the covenant of marriage, we ask that you would gift us with the eros love – the passionate, romantic love between husband and wife. May our marriages mirror the love between Christ and the Church, built on trust, intimacy and a lifelong pledge.
Lord, we know that true, lasting love can only flow from you. Fill us, empower us, and transform us by your Spirit, that we may love as you have loved us.
